Regarded as a star of the future when he was named ATP Newcomer of the Year in 1998 and ATP Most Improved Player of Year in 2000, Marat Safin went on to achieve the World No.1 ranking in 2000. Famous for his emotional outbursts and sometimes fiery temper on court, Safin was one of the most colorful players on the tour. He is the older brother of WTA player Dinara Safina and they are the first brother-sister tandem in tennis history to both achieve No.1 rankings.

-Safin started his professional career in 1997 & won his first ATP title in Boston in 1999 at the age of 19
