BIOGRAPHY

Ferreira holds the record for the most consecutive Grand Slam appearances in men’s tennis. He played in 56 consecutive Grand Slams between 1991 and 2004, surpassing the previous record of 54 held by Stefan Edberg. In 1996 he became the first South African player to finish in the top 10 in consecutive years in the history of the ATP rankings and was also South Africa’s top ranked player from 1990-2000.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

+In 1990 Ferreira came through the qualifying rounds to win his first Grand Slam match over Yannick Noah at Wimbledon.

+He broke into the top 10 in 1992, claiming his first singles title at Queen’s Club in London.

+His biggest titles came at Toronto in 1996 and Stuttgart in 2000 (both Tennis Masters Series events).

+Ferreira’s best Grand Slam results came at the Australian Open – reaching the semi-finals in 1992 and 2003.

+He partnered with Piet Norval to win the Men’s Doubles Silver Medal for South Africa at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
